A university connected with society

The University of Strasbourg has long been a pioneer in connecting science and society. In 2009, we created a dedicated leadership position for this purpose, originally the Vice-Presidency for “Science in Society”, which has since evolved into the Vice-Presidency for “Culture, Science and Society”.

We have also set up a Public and Community Engagement Office (mission Relations à la société) with over 100 members of staff, dedicated to building stronger connections and partnerships across all sectors of society.

The Public and Community Engagement Office brings together existing university services, including the Continuing Education Office (Service formation continue), Scientific Culture and Mediation office (Jardin des sciences) and the Alumni Office (Service relations Alumni). It also brings together newer project-based teams organised into specialised units, including the Open University of Strasbourg (OPUS) initiative, the Alsace University Innovation Hub (Pôle universitaire d’innovation Alsace – PUIA), the Socio-Economic Relations Office (Pôle relations avec le monde socio-économique) and the Entrepreneurship Hub (Pôle entrepreneuriat).
