Coming to Strasbourg as an international PhD researcher

The University of Strasbourg welcomes researchers from across the world. You can join one of our doctoral schools to pursue your PhD in full or for part of your research, with dedicated support throughout your journey.

This site is currently being translated into English. Thank you for your patience.

Prepare for your arrival

Alongside administrative steps, PhD students must contact their doctoral school to complete their admission.

The University of Strasbourg provides international students and researchers with an international welcome platform. It brings together all the practical information you need in both French and English to prepare for mobility, complete your enrolment at the university, apply for funding and find accommodation in Strasbourg.

The University of Strasbourg has also created a Guide for international PhD students and researchers.

Your dissertation supervisor

Every PhD candidate works under the supervision and responsibility of a dissertation supervisor, as set out in the French national regulatory framework for doctoral studies (Article 16). Your dissertation supervisor supports you throughout your PhD. They help shape your research project, guide your methodology and monitor your progress. They are your main academic contact and ensure the scientific direction of your dissertation.
