Quality of education

Since 2011, the University of Strasbourg has been committed to a process of continuous improvement of its courses and teaching, implemented by teaching staff based on student feedback.

This site is currently being translated into English. Thank you for your patience.

The university is conducting this process in compliance with the national framework and the decisions of its Board of Studies and University Life (Commission formation et vie universitaire – CFVU). This approach is part of its road map for quality and continuous improvement.

Students' evaluation of courses

At the end of each academic year, students complete a questionnaire with around 30 questions on all aspects of their studies (Évaluation des formations par les étudiants – EFE). Their answers are shared with quality assurance specialists and management teams, and inform the discussions of the teaching staff and development councils for course curricula. The answers can either be filtered according to the faculty, school or institute, or the course.

Students' evaluation of teaching

Students also evaluate the teaching of their courses (Évaluation des enseignements par les étudiants – EEE) at least once every five years. Each faculty, school or institute organises its own evaluations.

Development council for course curriculum

A development council for a course curriculum is composed of external stakeholders, representatives of students and alumni. The council meets every year to take stock of past actions and propose new measures to improve the quality of studies.

External evaluation by official bodies

The French High Council for Evaluation of Research and Higher Education (Haut Conseil de l'évaluation de la recherche et de l'enseignement supérieur – Hcéres) evaluates courses every five years. It analyses their appeal, student success rates, the professional integration of students and the effectiveness of internal evaluation.

The university is part of the French quality certification Qaliopi (website only available in French). In 2024, it signed the French Charter for Responsible and Quality Support for Apprentices in Higher Education Establishments (Charte pour un accompagnement responsable et de qualité des apprentis des établissements d’enseignement supérieur, website only available in French). It meets the requirements of the Qualiopi certification for activities related to continuing education, apprenticeships and the Certification of Past Experience (Validation des acquis de l'expérience – VAE).

Several faculties, schools or institutes have also obtained the international "Quality management systems" certification (ISO 9001 standard).
