The Scientific Integrity Officer's role
Scientific integrity means respecting all good practices and methods in research activities. The Scientific Integrity Officer has three main responsibilities:
- Promoting and enforcing the University of Strasbourg’s Charter of Research Ethics (Charte de déontologie des métiers de la recherche de l'Université de Strasbourg)
- Receiving and handling reports of scientific integrity breaches
- Representing the University of Strasbourg to the French Office for Research Integrity (Office français de l'intégrité scientifique – OFIS) and the League of European Research Universities (LERU) on all matters relating to scientific integrity
When to contact the Scientific Integrity Officer
Contact the Scientific Integrity Officer if you notice a potential scientific integrity breach, for example:
- Plagiarism
- Inappropriate manipulation or fabrication of data
- Authorship disputes or undeclared conflicts of interest
Upon receiving a report, the Scientific Integrity Officer will:
- Verify the report
- Launch an investigation and notify the people involved if necessary
- Propose solutions and consult independent experts when needed
- Conduct the investigation fairly and with due process
- Draft a report including recommendations
- Submit the report to the President of the university, who will decide on any actions to take
