The Student and Campus Life Contribution (contribution vie étudiante et de campus – CVEC) is an annual payment required from students enrolled in higher education in France. It is collected by the Regional Centre for University and Student Services (Centres régionaux des œuvres universitaires et scolaires – Crous) and helps fund services and initiatives that support student life, including housing, catering and campus activities.

Paying the Student and Campus Life Contribution

Who has to pay?

The Student and Campus Life Contribution (CVEC) is mandatory for all students enrolled in initial higher education programmes in France, including students on apprenticeship contracts.

Some students do not have to pay, including those on professionalisation contracts, scholarship holders, refugees and students receiving specific financial aid.

If this applies to you, you must still complete the procedure, obtain a certificate and present it when registering at the university.

How to pay the CVEC and get your certificate

Go to the Student and Campus Life Contribution (CVEC) website to pay and get your certificate before registering at the university.

Important note: you cannot complete your enrolment without a CVEC code, so make sure you do this step first.

If you are still waiting for a decision on your scholarship application, you still need to pay the CVEC. Once your scholarship is confirmed, you can then request a refund.

What is the CVEC used for?

The Student and Campus Life Contribution helps the University of Strasbourg improve campus life and support initiatives in five key areas: health, social support, sports, culture and community.

The university's CVEC Committee (Commission CVEC) manages and oversees how the contribution is used. Led by the Vice-Presidency for University Life and supported by the General Services Office (Direction générale des services – DGS), the committee brings together vice-presidents of the university (University Life, Education, Culture), heads of services (student life, culture, sports, health and social support), elected student representatives from all campuses and from student organisations, as well as representatives from Crous, the Eurométropole de Strasbourg, the Région Grand Est, and the cities of Haguenau, Colmar and Sélestat.

The committee meets at least twice a year to review projects and award grants, ensuring the CVEC has a tangible impact on student and campus life.

Key projects supported by the CVEC

Since it was introduced in 2018, the CVEC has helped fund a wide range of student-focused projects, including:

  • A free Carte Culture for all students
  • The distribution of over 1,200 laptops during the COVID-19 crisis
  • The creation of an accessible space at the Studium for students with disabilities
  • Outdoor equipment upgrades on the Illkirch campus
  • Free menstrual product dispensers across campus
