Schedule for the beginning of the 2021 academic year

01/09/2021

Due to the persistence of the coronavirus, the university has been forced to implement a number of measures in order to reconcile the necessity to respect hygiene precautions with the smooth running of the academic year.

A full return of all staff and students is being prepared for the beginning of the 21/22 academic year. The university is expecting students to return to the campuses in near-normal conditions while respecting health and safety measures and, in certain cases, the requirement of a pass sanitaire (health pass).

Various provisions are also being made to enable students to get vaccinated.

Should the public health situation and the national guidelines change, teaching conditions or campus life may be adapted.

The best defence against Covid-19 and its variants remains vaccination

The university, together with the Agence Régionale de Santé Grand-Est, is encouraging students to get vaccinated in order to accelerate the process of herd immunity and thus return to a more stress-free student life on campus. During the first weeks of the year, several facilities will be available to students to get tested, get informed and get vaccinated.

General rules

  • The academic year will begin as planned, on 1 September (pré-rentrée) and 6 September (beginning of classes).
  • There will be no restrictions on numbers in teaching rooms or on access to libraries, within the limits of their total capacities.
  • The pass sanitaire will not be required for access to teaching rooms or libraries but mask wearing will remain obligatory.
  • For all activities that are open to the public, other than teaching (scientific, cultural, sporting and charity events), a pass sanitaire will be required.
  • The observance of hygiene measures, the establishment of one-way systems, regular hand washing, social distancing and mask wearing will be required of everyone for as long as necessary.
  • All classrooms must be aired for at least 10 minutes every hour, even in cold weather.
  • Arrangements for the beginning of the academic year may change to react to developments in the public health situation and decisions taken by the national, prefectural and academic authorities.

Hygiene guidelines

The hygiene guidelines to be followed on university premises are:

  • compulsory mask wearing by all members of staff, students and visitors in all university buildings, except for individual offices and while consuming food and drink and practising sport;
  • the enforcement of hygiene measures;
  • the observance of one-way systems inside buildings;
  • regular hand washing, in particular through the provision of alcohol-based hand sanitiser gel;
  • ventilation of premises;
  • cleaning and disinfection of premises and equipment.

Other initiatives will also be set up by the central services as well as by each teaching and research unit. Detailed information can be found at bienvenue.unistra.fr

International students and researchers: health measures for entering France

France has made arrangements for all international students and researchers to reach their host institution in complete health safety. The procedures for entering France vary according to the country of origin and vaccination status.

Teaching

Access to premises

  • Classrooms and lecture rooms may be used with no particular limitation of the number of students, up to their full capacity
  • Compulsory mask wearing in teaching rooms
  • Hand sanitiser will be available in building entrances, lecture rooms, etc.
  • For practical classes (TP) that require the use of shared equipment, soap, hand towels and hydroalcoholic gel will be provided
  • For practical classes (TP) in front of computers, students must clean the keyboard and mouse before and after use.

Organisation of teaching

  • Classes will take place face to face.
  • Some classes may be conducted remotely in exceptional circumstances or in response to specific situations.
  • A deterioration in the situation at the beginning of the academic year or the incidence of numerous Covid cases within the same class may lead to adjustments: teaching of half classes or the implementation of distance teaching.
  • In any event, the university is committed to ensuring pedagogical continuity as it has done since the beginning of the Covid-19 public health crisis

Communication with students

Students are urged to activate their @etu.unistra.fr email address as soon as possible at the beginning of the academic year (and forward emails to their personal email address, if they wish) in order to receive all communications from their teaching and research unit, as well as from their teachers.

Student access to IT facilities

The university will continue to ensure that students have full access to digital learning, wherever possible.

Workstations and the network will be available for use in the libraries, unless there is another lockdown.

Several IT rooms will be open to students, under the supervision of a student monitor, when they are not being used for teaching; with due regard to the rules of social distancing and disinfection of equipment.

Campus life

Student aid

Financial aid exists and is managed by the Crous de Strasbourg. Aid for the acquisition of computer equipment is managed by the Fondation Université de Strasbourg, on a case-by-case basis.

Individualised support for students

Medical-psychological support for students is provided by the University health service (SSU) in collaboration with the Centre d’accueil médico-psychologique de Strasbourg (CAMUS).

Assistance for students with disabilities

Requests for assistance are made exclusively via an online form:

https://amenagements-handicap.unistra.fr

Restaurants and cafeterias

The Crous de Strasbourg expects to be able to ensure normal functioning of its accommodation in student residences and of its restaurants. Detailed information can be found on the Crous de Strasbourg’s website.

Student cafeterias will be reopened, and operate in the same way as the cafés.

Vending machines (drinks, sweets, etc.) will be restarted.

University libraries

Until the summer holidays, the libraries will operate with modified opening hours and under specific conditions linked to the end of lockdown.

The libraries will be completely closed from the evening of Friday 23 July until the morning of Monday 16 August.

From 16 August, if the public health situation is favourable, the libraries will resume "normal" operations (pre-Covid-19):

  • Resumption of normal opening hours (including evenings, Saturdays and Sundays)
  • Normal lending procedures (number, duration, renewals)
  • No more quotas or appointments
  • Occupation of all work areas
  • Normal access to group workrooms, subject to good ventilation

The following instructions must be respected by all (users and staff):

  • compulsory mask wearing
  • hand disinfection with hydroalcoholic gel

Academic and professional guidance (Espace Avenir)

The reception of students and high-school pupils is possible until the summer holidays, in the Espace Avenir premises, by appointment only.

Espace Avenir will be closed from 19 July to 20 August 2021.

Physical reception and face-to-face accompaniment will be provided at the beginning of the academic year. All necessary arrangements will be made to also provide remote handling (telephone, video-conference and email) of requests from students.
